The roads agency hopes its new alliance set-up with three key contractors and consultants will contain cost-overruns that have afflicted some previous stretches of the programme.
Three contractor partners have been selected to deliver the future smart motorway programme worth up to £4.5bn.
Costain secured the northern region, with a BAM Nuttall/Morgan Sindall joint venture appointed for the Midlands and Balfour Beatty the southern area.
Consultants WSP UK and Jacobs Engineering UK are design partners for the alliance from initial concept to closeout. While Fluor had secured the smart motorway production management partner role to lead and coordinate the alliance partners.
Highways England will provide an overview of the alliance, information regarding its supply chain strategy and its future procurement programme on behalf of the alliance partners.
