HS2 is raising the bar on standards for site accommodation and skills training facilities with a major architect-designed temporary building for workers on the Euston station project in London.

Designer site accommodation will be manufactured offsite by Premier Modular at its East Yorkshire works.

HS2’s Mace Dragados joint venture has just gained planning to build the 6-storey combined site accommodation and skills training centre on the grounds of the former Maria Fidelis School in Camden

It will now install the 60,000 sq ft temporary modular building next year.

When complete the building will provide changing and welfare facilities for up to 2,500 on-site workers at peak and be used throughout the duration of the long station construction programme.

The size and shape of the building was designed by Fraser Brown Mackenna Architects to ensure the HS2 site accommodation and Construction Skills Centre can be co-located on the site.

The Construction Skills Centre located above the welfare facilities will be able to accommodate 150 students and 30 staff and will be run by Camden Council.

It will incorporate workshop spaces, an IT room, classrooms and will house a range of technical equipment.

Jackie Duncan, Stakeholders and Communities Director for Mace Dragados JV said: “Our site accommodation is critical to enable us to provide welfare and desk space for thousands of workers who will be helping us build HS2’s Euston station.

“Having the Construction Skills Centre located within the building will enable us to develop close links with the students and staff at the centre and provide opportunities for us to share our skills and experience in the construction sector with the local community.”
