NHS Lanarkshire is going out to pre-procurement consultation with designers and contractors for a planned £500m new hospital in Wester Moffat on the outskirts of Airdrie in Scotland.

The new hospital will be the first in Scotland to be designed from the outset to be fully net zero for both the build and operation phases

The existing University Hospital Monklands has greatly exceeded its design life posing many operational and financial challenges said the trust.

Under present plans, the new hospital at Wester Moffat is expected to be opened in 2028. Plans have been drawn up by Keppie Design serving as architect for the Monklands Replacement Project.

The new hospital will provide 400-500 patient beds

Tenders will be invited at the start of March major new hospital complex. Firms are being invited to express interest ahead of this on the Public Contract Scotland website.

NHS Lanarkshire is working with the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland Assure – the new service established to assess the quality and management of healthcare construction projects – as it continues to develop its outline business case.

This will be submitted to the Scottish Government for approval following sign-off through the new NHS Assure process during the course of 2022.
