A joint venture between Berekely Group and SEGRO has named the builder for their first urban multi-storey warehouse scheme.

Contractor Glencar will build the six-storey warehouse, which is being plugged into St George’s Grand Union major mixed-use neighbourhood in Brent, North West London.

The pioneering 135,000 sq ft building is the first in a new concept for delivering multi-storey light industrial property in an urban backdrop.

This dovetails with the Greater London Authority’s new London Plan to intensify industrial land, delivering jobs and homes as part of the regeneration of a wider brownfield site.

Glencar managing director Eddie McGillycuddy said: “As the first multi storey logistics development of its kind to be developed in London and the UK more generally we are absolutely delighted to be appointed by St George and SEGRO to deliver this ground-breaking development.

To be called SEGRO V-Park Grand Union, the ground and first floors of the building are set aside to provide over 100 parking spaces, with electric vehicle charging points.

Warehouse building will incorporate photovoltaic cells and an internal green wall.

The flexible industrial space is arranged over four upper levels that can be configured as up to 20 individual units of different sizes.

Construction is expected to begin this Summer.

The wider Grand Union canal-side 22-acre derelict Northfields Industrial Estate is being transformed by Berkeley subsidiary St George into a vibrant new mixed-use neighbourhood.

It will comprise 3,350 homes, 35% of which is affordable with the first residents already moved in, delivering much-needed homes and jobs to the London Borough of Brent.
