The project involves partial demolition of the existing Ferneham Hall building, internal remodelling and new build with the addition of a fly tower – a rigging system that enables scenery and cast to be flown or carried above the stage.
Once completed, the new arts and entertainment venue in Fareham town centre will include an 800-seat auditorium, a 120-seat theatre, community rooms, a flexible studio space as well as a bar and café area.
The cost of a new theatre complex has rocketed due to increasing construction costs and design changes.
When Fareham Borough Council first put the scheme out to tender two years ago it expected the project to cost around £8m.
