Councillors unanimously agreed to proceed with the construction phase of the school build with a date for breaking ground to be confirmed.
Enabling works have been ongoing at the school site since late last year and are nearing completion.
Since a devastating fire in 2019, an extension to the existing sports block, including new changing rooms and gymnasium, has been completed in time for the start of the new academic year and is being used by the school students.
Malcolm Keillor, construction director at BAM, said: ‘We’re looking forward to starting the next phase of this exciting project. We will continue to support the community, working with local businesses and suppliers to deliver the new school sustainably and with maximum benefit to the local area.
“Peebles High School is the second school we have delivered in the Scottish Borders, having successfully delivered the award-winning Jedburgh campus in 2020.”
