Compulsory purchase orders need to be approved by the secretary of state before work can begin but the council now hopes with will start early next year – almost 100 years since the scheme was first proposed.
The Banwell Bypass, which was first proposed as an idea back in 1927, gained planning approval back in the Spring but was stalled by cost increases.
The council has now found further funds for the scheme which it said would cost £89m in its entirety including the cost of consultants, utilities, and contingency money
Homes England has provided £77.3m of this, with North Somerset Council contributing £11.9m.
