A company statement said: “Yesterday morning (4 December) a member of our team working on the Oxford North project was seriously injured in an incident on site.
“The emergency services were called and attended site immediately, but the person sadly died at the scene.
“We are shocked and upset by what has happened and have suspended work on the project.
“The police and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) are now on site and we are cooperating with their investigations. For now we are focused on doing all we can to support everyone affected by this tragic incident, including the family of the deceased and our project team.”
It is the second death on an O’Rourke site this year following a fatality at the Everton stadium site in August.
Following the latest tragedy Group Chief Operating Officer Cathal O’Rourke sent an email to all staff.
It said: “This is the second incident this year in which a life has been lost on one of our projects.
“No-one should lose their life going about their daily tasks and we will review this incident in depth and think very carefully about any additional actions or learnings we can share.”
