This near £30m redevelopment of the iconic 1846 warehouse designed by 6a architects recently gained planning permission and listed building consent.

Planned works involve a major remodelling of the building to improve the gallery’s visibility and presence on the dock underlining its credentials as a leading international cultural institution.

Gilbert-Ash will deliver significant alterations throughout the galleries including breakout of floors, new lifts and stairs, as well as a complete building services refit and façade replacement.

The design is hoped to reveal more of the former Victorian warehouse through its new open-plan ground floor
