He worked for Keltbray for just over two years as managing director Highways & Renewables (Civils) before leaving at the end of 2023.
Gandhi bring over 30 years experience having worked before that at civils contractor nmcn for a short spell and over 20 years at consultant Jacobs.
He will drive McAlpine’s ongoing growth strategy in Infrastructure, one of its core sectors, and oversee the delivery of major transport projects.
Gandhi joins at the same time that Sir Robert McAlpine has appointed two new framework directors – Richard Parker and David Polkey – who will be responsible for the delivery of nuclear work at Sellafield.
Polkey previously worked with Morgan Sindall as specialist operations director and at Sellafield before that, while Richard Parker was promoted.
Tony Gates, executive managing director of Infrastructure, said: “I am delighted to welcome Vip as the new Managing Director of Transport.
“His appointment demonstrates the continued success of our sector-based approach and I look forward to seeing him apply his talents to our UK wide operations.
“Along with Richard and David’s appointments, it’s an exciting time for Infrastructure, with clear growth plans for the years ahead.”
