A loose panel was discovered after high winds late last month forcing the closure of the A320 Victoria Way while checks and repair work are carried-out.
Woking Borough Council leader Ann-Marie Barker has now confirmed the work and road closure could extend into next month.
She said: “The loose panel has been secured and additional temporary fixings are being applied to all panels. Panels are prioritised according to exposure and susceptibility to high winds and I’m sorry to say that the work to secure them could extend into March.”
Additional fixings were applied to panels in a “high load wind zone” following a storm in December.
But the problem panel hit by the latest high winds in January was not in that area and McAlpine has now extended the zone and is checking and securing more panels.
Cllr Barker added: “Whilst the temporary fixings will hopefully solve the immediate issue and enable the road to reopen, they will not be suitable for the medium/long term.”
Sir Robert McAlpine was invited to a council meeting to discuss the issue this week but declined.
The A320 has been shut numerous times since 2021 due to external panel issues at the hotel.
