Vinci Building has been lined up as main contractor for the  St Helens Interchange, which will replace the ageing bus station with a modern, green and accessible hub serving bus, cycle and pedestrian users.

The project is part of the first phase of the wider £100m town centre regeneration, which will also deliver a new Market Hall, homes, office and retail space, and a 120-bed Hampton by Hilton hotel.

The scheme is being delivered by St Helens Borough Council and regeneration partner ECF — a joint venture between Muse, Homes England and Legal & General — backed by funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Government’s Towns Fund.

Subject to planning approval, work will start shortly with completion set for 2026.

The facility will be built using recycled and locally sourced materials. Green roofs and solar panels will be installed across the building and new civic square, which links the Interchange with the neighbouring Gamble Building.

The surrounding public realm will be overhauled with new planting, street furniture and walking and cycling routes linking to the nearby railway station. The Gamble Square civic space will create a new arrival point and gateway into the town centre.
