Glasgow City Council has approved the 13-storey, tp bennett-designed scheme for a brownfield site at the corner of Old Wynd Street and Osborne Street, near the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University.
The development is expected to cost around £25m to build and will deliver 173 studio rooms along with a cinema, games room, karaoke space, rooftop lounge and terrace.
Targeting BREEAM Excellent, the building will feature a high-performance fabric and air source heat pumps to reduce carbon emissions.
The site previously secured permission for a 165-room hotel, with that consent still valid until 2027.
Construction is expected to support up to 290 jobs.
Edward Law, planning associate at Dominus, said: “We’re pleased to win approval to transform this underused site into high-quality student accommodation with generous amenities.”
Iceni Projects advised on planning, townscape and heritage.
