How to find staff in 2015

Skills shortages have been a constant problem throughout 2014 with the situation set to get worse in the New Year.

Construction companies are all competing for the best talent from a pool of people which seems inadequate to fill the number of vacancies available.

The challenge for HR departments over the next 12 months is filling the roles needed to keep the construction recovery on track.

This recovery is radically different from previous upturns – we now live in a digital world where job-seekers are much more savvy about who they want to work for.

It almost goes without saying that job searches are virtually all done online now – the thought of buying a print ad to promote a role now seems quaintly old-fashioned.

Contractors have to make vacancies appealing and really sell their companies as great places to work.

The vast majority of corporate career pages seem an afterthought on company websites.

Potential applicants are often asked for pages of personal data before they even get near applying for a job.

That’s a real turn-off for candidates.

You have to make the application process as quick and easy as possible in the current market – with a human point of contact to chat to about how to apply.

A huge part of the job of an HR department should be to engage with potential employees and sell the role – not make them wade through form-after-form as a first impression of a firm.

Vacancies should also include a salary. Decent pay attracts more applicants and everyone knows where they are from the start of negotiations.

Companies that can’t attract applicants in a rising market are often not paying enough – it can be as simple as that.

Of course people look for more than just wages – so it is up to you to explain why a company is worth working for.

When there is a skills shortage it is all about fighting for the best talent.

You also have to get your vacancies in front of the largest pool of potential applicants.

That is where the Enquirer can help.

We have the biggest online readership in construction:

1.4million page views a month

200,000+ unique visitors a month

38,0000+ subscribers to our daily newsletter

We can put your job ads in front of people already working in the industry.

Unlike job boards and recruitment agencies we won’t flood you with CVs from people who have been unemployable for years.

Our readers work in the industry for your rivals – but might be looking for a change in direction.

The Enquirer can put your job ad in front of them – it is then up to you to sell your company and make them apply.

Our single job ads cost just £200 a month.

Corporate packages for larger recruiters cost just £500 a month for a large display ad and at least two highlighted roles.
