A consortium comprising Cyril Sweett Investments and Miller Construction has been selected as the preferred bidder for the northern hub territory in Scotland.

The hub north is being set up to deliver £435m worth of community projects over the next 10 years, from small GP practices to large combined community, health and sports centres

Scottish Futures Trust is heading up the hub initiative being rolled out across five regions in Scotland.

The body has already selected Galliford Try, part of the SPACE consortium, as preferred partner for the south east hub with first projects due to go on site later this year.

Hub east central is now in procurement and hub west will shortly begin the partner selection process. The last region up for bid will be the south west now likely to come up for bidding in 2011.

The hub programme was set up by the Scottish Government to achieve value for money through economies of scale and provide a framework for continuous improvement

The Miller/Cyril Sweett consortium, known as Alba Community Partnerships, will start construction on the first projects in the northern territory next year.

    Initial hub north projects

    • Aberdeen Health Village (£29m);
    • Ardseileach Core and Cluster Resettlement (£3m);
    • Tain Replacement Health Centre (£7m); and
    • Woodside Medical Group (£7m).

Chris Webster, chief executive, Miller Construction, said: “The hub programme is in line with our strategy to secure long term opportunities which will enable us to develop and deliver a programme of construction activities.

“North hub offers valuable opportunities for the future whilst bringing untold benefits to the local communities that it will serve, through the provision of modern facilities, employment generation and new venture opportunities for local supply chain partners.”

Dean Webster, chief executive officer of Cyril Sweett, said: “Being named as preferred bidder on the hub North Territory is a significant achievement for Cyril Sweett and is in-line with our strategy to invest in the long-term delivery of public sector projects and infrastructure.

“Through Alba Community Partnerships, we will work with a further 18 public sector organisations in Scotland, delivering community facilities and services that provide a real benefit to the people of the North Territory.”
