Danish energy company Dong Energy is proposing to build a wind turbine manufacturing plant at the Able UK Marine Energy Park site at Killingholme, near Immingham in North East Lincolnshire.

This paves the way to build a 1.3km new quay front extending out into the estuary at an estimated construction cost of £165m.

It is the second major wind turbine manufacturing plant planed for the area with VolkerFitzatrick having just started across the estuary in Hull on a £310m facility for Siemens.

The procurement contest, which is being managed by Driver Project Services, will be officially advertised on the 29 September.

The planned energy park scheme was first put out to tender three years ago, when Hochtief and Morgan Sindall were among several contractors eyeing the scheme, which stalled amid uncertainty over rival schemes and land.

The first quays are now expected to be working by 2018.

Last March work started to upgrade the roads to AMEP and the port of Immingham.
