Sheffield Uni plans £45m social sciences hub

Sheffield University is pressing ahead with plans to consolidate its social sciences departments into a new flagship building.

The £45m scheme will be built on a sports pitch on the western edge of the Broomhill campus.

The two-year building project is expected to cost around £30m to build uniting three departments – economics, politics and sociology – as a ‘hub’ under one roof. Currently the Social Sciences estate is spread across 19 different buildings across campus.

The University has put plans out to public consultation ahead of submitting a planning application for the new building.
