The final £26m contract for a maintenance facility at Plumstead has been secured by a joint venture comprising Alstom Transport, TSO and Costain. The ATC consortium beat separate bids from Balfour Beatty and Vinci for the project.
This proposed facility will include three railway sidings for maintenance trains and capacity to stable eight passenger trains on the site.
The site will also include staff accommodation, a maintenance building, storage areas, a train refuelling point, a train wash and staff car park.
Simon Wright, Programme Director at Crossrail said: “The procurement of billions of pounds worth of work for the Crossrail programme has been a monumental exercise.
“The contracts we’ve signed with our principle contractors have set the future standard for major UK infrastructure projects, helping us to deliver more than 550 apprenticeships, reducing our impact on the environment and spreading the economic benefits of the project.”
From more thaN 100 major contracts around 62% of companies in the project’s supply chain were based outside London and 63% classified as SMEs.
