The design and build contract for the Abbey Area Redevelopment includes building 75 private homes, 66 homes for affordable rent, commercial spaces and a 52-space underground car park.
Wates recently completed £4m of enabling works on the Abbey Road and Belsize Road site and is now starting a 98-week main work programme.
The appointment comes just one month after Wates announced plans to expand its new-build housing activities and builds upon the developer’s project base in Greater London.
The growth of the developer’s project portfolio has also seen the expansion of its southern team, with the appointment of Glen Roberts as project director.
Roberts, who was previously production director for Mulalley and Co, brings over 30 years of industry experience to his new role and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Abbey Area Redevelopment project.
Wates’ current projects include the extensive regeneration of Erith Park in the London Borough of Bexley on behalf of Orbit and Network Homes’ £48m Thrayle House development in Stockwell, South London.
