Skanska has worked with the council since 2006 but faced stiff competition from Kier when the job came up for renewal.
The Enquirer understands Skanska has won the battle and an official announcement from the council is imminent.
One source close to the tender race said: “Kier threw everything they had at this one and are very disappointed not to have picked it up.”
The latest deal starts in April and could also last up to ten years and be worth up to £60m per annum.
Work involves maintaining 1,700 miles of carriageway, 1,400 miles of footways and cycleways and 1,276 structures.
The contract also covers a range of infrastructure improvements to junctions, roads and bridges.
It marks a successful period for Skanska after the firm bagged a £210m deal from Hampshire County Council where it will be replacing Amey from this summer.
• Hanson Contracting has confirmed it has re-secured its maintenance deal with Dorset Highways for another decade.
The renewed contract starts on April 1 and is worth more than £100m.
