Network Rail is preparing to start the bid race in May for three major next generation plain line trackwork delivery deals covering Britain.

A supplier event has been scheduled for the 23 April in London with a venue yet to be named to outline changes to the proposed new framework plan.

The extended 10-year work package for control period 6 and 7 is expected to be worth anywhere between £3bn and £5bn.

At present three contractors deliver track renewals.  These are Babcock, Amey Rail, which bought Carillion’s contracts three weeks ago, and Colas.

For the framework renewal ,Network Rail wants designers and contractors to pre-form as consortia to prequalify for the forthcoming tender race.

Next generation of track infrastructure contract

  • Alliance 1: North (Scotland Route)
  • Alliance 2: Central (London North West, and London North East & East Midland Routes)
  • Alliance 3: South (Anglia, Southeast, Wessex, Western, and Wales Routes)

The scope will predominantly cover design and construction of trackworks on plain line track and switches and crossings points.

Steve Featherstone, Network Rail’s director for track said: “This tender represents a major milestone in the development of our strategy for our track infrastructure investment programme.

It also represents a significant commitment by Network Rail to the rail industry and we are expecting high levels of interest in these contracts from the supply chain. In return, we will be looking for clear and firm commitments from the supply chain to deliver value for Network Rail.”

Formal invitation to prequalify will be released on 9 May 2018 with contract winners name at the end of the year.
