Betting Spy: Liverpool a big price to beat Arsenal

If Spurs’ defence was as mean as their lawyers the Lillywhites could be facing Barcelona in the next round of the Champions League rather than licking their wounds over the Real Madrid mauling.

Tottenham seem determined to force a legal fight over the decision to hand West Ham the Olympic stadium.

The whole challenge is a bit unedifying but Spurs don’t seem to know when they are beaten.

That’s certainly not an accusation you can level at the Hammers. We always know when we are beaten and it’s usually soon after kick-off every Saturday.

It was a fascinating week in the Champions League as Chelsea crashed-out with many blaming the owner’s supposed interference in team selection.

But Blue’s fans can’t have it both ways. You can’t expect Abramovich to stump up billions then not expect his own way.

Fernando Torres should never have got near the team on form, but what billionaires want, they tend to get.

It could be a worrying omen for Arsenal fans as Stan Kroenke looks set to take control and add the gunners to his stable of American football and ice-hockey teams.

Will he tell Arsene Wenger who to pick. Who knows? But if the the Gunners line up next season with a keeper in knee pads and an ice-hockey mask you know something is amiss.

Mind you, after seeing Jans Lehman return, nothing would surprise me between the sticks at the Emirates.

A lot of people believe the removal of Ray Wilkins coincided with Chelsea’s downturn.

I’d love to see him back at the Bridge just to spare us all his drivel as a commentator.

Talking slowly in that weird “Tango” voice doesn’t make him sound profound. It makes him sound like Forrest Gump.

And talking of forests, see what I did there, watching Rory McIlroy chopping from the trees during his Masters meltdown was heartbreaking TV.

Golf can be the cruelest of sports but Rory will roar back and lead a great new era for the Europeans.

So who shall we back this week?

I was keen on Man City to beat United in the cup until their spineless showing at Liverpool.

So let’s look to the other semi for a decent wager and I’m keen on Bolton at 6/4 to beat Stoke.

Owen Coyle’s boys are in fine form and the wide open spaces of Wembley will suit them more than Stoke.

Liverpool seem to be hitting their stride as Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez gel up front.

The Reds are a big price at 4/1 to beat Arsenal at the Emirates and are worth a punt to expose the home side’s defensive frailties.

Running Total for all bets to a £10 stake: £ -38.00
