The Cotsworld ground testing firm was the first to be convicted under new corporate manslaughter legislation after a young geologist was killed in a trench collapse.
The geologist Alexander Wright died in September 2008 at a Stroud site when the unshored pit he was working in collapsed.
The Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge also upheld its £385,000 fine at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday.
Lord Judge said it was “unavoidable and inevitable” that the company would probably have to go into liquidation to pay the fine.
The prosecution was the first under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007.
At the time of the conviction at Winchester Crown Court, Costwold Geotechnical Holdings was given special dispensation to pay the fine over 10 years at £38,500 a year.
