Safeguarding the half-finished Midland Metropolitan hospital is expected to cost around £10m and will get underway next month.
Works will include the repair and replacement of a number of partially completed elements, including metal balustrading and extract flumes to prevent further deterioration and ensure the scheme remains fully safe and secure.
Balfour will also be involved in developing the design as part of the six-month deal.
Hospital bosses at Carillion’s stalled scheme will next week open the site gates to potential completion contractors at a formal bidders day ahead of an official invitation to tender for the £300m-plus job.
Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust has also revealed it has kept on five senior Carillion staff to advise on the project restart.
The completion of the hospital project has now been pushed back two years to 2022.
