The 185,000 sq ft headquarters building will be used as offices for Camden Council along with two floors for a 25m swimming pool and library.
Camden Council and Argent-led King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership have signed a deal to go-ahead with St Pancras Square, which has been designed by Bennetts Associates Architects.
This means that Kier Build now is scheduled to start construction work on Three Pancras Square in early 2012, with completion due in summer 2014.
The partners are aiming for a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, making it one of the first inner-city buildings in the UK to achieve this top sustainability rating.
The new building will enable the Council to deliver better, more efficient public services and achieve important cost savings.
Camden Council will now terminate leases on seven buildings including the existing Town Hall Extension building on Argyle Street but will retain the Old Town Hall building on Judd Street.
The deal means that four major buildings are now coming forward at Pancras Square, which sits in a prime location between St Pancras International and King’s Cross stations.
Work is also due to start in 2012 on BNP Paribas Real Estate’s new development at One Pancras Square.
This new 340,000 sq ft net office building, being designed for the developer BNP Paribas Real Estate by Wilmotte & Associates, will be submitted for reserved matters approval later this year and is due for delivery by end of 2014.
Meanwhile, KCCLP is gearing up to start work on Two and Four Pancras Square later this year.
Designed by David Chipperfield Architects and Allies & Morrison respectively, these buildings already have full planning approval and will deliver some 180,000 sq ft net of speculative office space, ground floor retail units and a new entrance into the Underground system.
