In Swansea, Kier has stepped in to build a pupil referral unit at Cockett House where advanced demolition had been completed but building work had not got underway.

The finishing job is worth nearly £8m.

The new teaching facility (above) will replace existing and outdated pupil referral accommodation that is currently scattered at various locations across the city.

In Manchester, Sisk will oversee the completion of the £15m Manchester-Salford Inner Relief Road and plans to mobilise this week on the Regent Road works site.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “This has been a challenging situation but I am glad that it has been resolved so quickly and that this vital work is now getting back on track.

“We recognise that it’s been frustrating for motorists during this brief period of uncertainty but despite the complexities involved, the good news is that we’ve only lost a short amount of time and do not anticipate significant delay, if any, to the original project timetable.”

Last week Welsh civil engineering contractor Griffiths also secured the job to re-start work the stalled £12m transformation of a key Swansea city centre route.
