The plans involve a new 87,400 sq ft food superstore with 560 car parking spaces, in-store café and a petrol filling station, and would provide more than 300 jobs in Washington.
Roger Wheeldon, senior development surveyor at Peel, said: “The new food superstore if granted planning permission will give an excellent boost to the area and provide a much greater choice for shoppers, as well as providing much needed jobs in the area.”
The scheme involves a major redevelopment of the Peel retail park site. The new Tesco store will be raised with car parking below.
Construction should take 12 months and a contractor could be on site next year subject to planning permission.
