The incident took place on a £12m refurb job at the former Sheraton Hotel in Belgravia where a man was stabbed in the shoulder.
Details about the incident are yet to emerge. Rumours that it was an argument over pay are now thought to be untrue.
The man who was taken to hospital worked as a site foreman for one of the subcontractors.
In a statement the fit-out firm said: “A visiting sub-contractor had an altercation with an unknown individual at the entrance to the site.
“The individual concerned is badly shaken by the incident, but did not sustain any serious physical injury and is expected back to work today, Wednesday.
It added: “The police are still investigating the incident.
“Overbury has assisted the police with their investigation and is currently awaiting further information about the outcome of their investigation. We will release further information when it is appropriate to do so.”
