All 200 staff were told they had been made redundant by letter on Monday by administrators FRP.

One employee told the Enquirer: “We were all stunned by the news. It’s a pretty difficult time of year to be told you don’t have a job. Such sad news for all involved including subcontractors too.”

FSG has not published accounts since Saint-Gobain offloaded its Glassolutions Installation business to private investment firm CoBe Capital in August 2018.

Last year former Balfour Beatty gas and water operations boss, Craig McGilvray, was drafted in as chief executive of the independent commercial glazing contractor to grow the business.

Last summer McGilvray reported the business was on target to break-even in 2020 and achieve a turnover of £50m by December 2019.

He worked alongside Dirk Jaspers, director of operations Europe at CoBe Capital, who became managing director of FGS following the acquisition.

The façade team specialised in full vertical envelope solutions for projects between £1m-15m while the regional team provided a specialist design, installation and refurbishment service on projects between £30-750K in value.

Another employee added: “Sad day in view of the stunning buildings in our back catalogue from Kirkstall Forge in Leeds to the V&A Dundee. Amongst many others.”

FSG traces its history back 25 years starting out originally as part of Doulton Glass Industries before being bought by Solaglas in the early eighties to be then acquired in 1990 by Sant-Gobain.
