Goodwin’s managing director and founder Richard Goodwin began his career in construction at Bardsley while qualifying as a quantity surveyor.

Now he is expanding his business, founded in a barn with just four employees eight years ago, with the aim of becoming one of the region’s leading main contractors.

The Cheadle business has been steadily growing, while big names like Pochin’s and Bardsley in the North West have faltered.

He said Goodwin’s pipeline revenue forecast for this year was £70m-plus.

Goodwin said: “The new appointments come at a great time for us. We are currently laying foundations for our continued growth and investing in and enriching our senior management team is a vital part of our plans.

“I have a lot of respect for Bardsley and know the level of quality and experience of the people there, so creating jobs for some of those facing redundancy seemed like the next natural step,” he added.

The new appointments have been made across a multitude of senior roles, including quantity surveyors, site engineers and project managers.

“We’ve recently secured projects with a total value of £30m-plus and are also in negotiations to secure further work worth an estimated £40m-plus.

“Though we’re not about filling order books for turnover, our mission is to grow the company in a sustainable way with strong foundations for growth,” said Goodwin.
