Founder and managing director, Ian Sanderson, said he was devastated by the move and said that the firm had been caught by project delays and issues on jobs.

Notice has been filed with the court of an intention to appoint an administrator.

Sanderson, which was established 20 years ago, originally specialised in fit-out and refurbishment contracts mainly for the pub and restaurant sector but more recently expanded in hotel and new build projects taking its project range to over £5m.

The firm built several projects for Premier Inns, J D Weatherspoons, Miller and Carters.

It was currently working on two Easy Hotel projects each worth around £60m. One in Cardiff was close to completion and the other in Blackpool was half-finished.

It was also working on several smaller JDW projects throughout the UK.

In recent years revenue had halved from a peak of £60m in 2016 to around £30m in most recent published accounts.

Ian Sanderson said: “Like many in the construction sector, we have experienced very difficult trading conditions as projects have been cancelled or delayed in the current economic climate and issues on a number of large-scale developer led projects have negatively impacted the company.

“As soon as we became aware that income was not materialising as quickly as we had anticipated, we sought to take prompt action to minimise losses to our supply chain and customers.

“It is regrettable that job losses are anticipated as we have grown and invested in our workforce over the last 20 years and employ highly skilled people.

“The board remains committed to working with the administrators to maximise asset recoveries and are hopeful that a return can be made to creditors in due course.”
