Now don’t get me wrong, knocking out Napoli was a great performance from the Blues.
But please don’t let it lead to talk of Chelsea winning the Champions League and Terry and Lampard leading our charge at Euro 2012.
Chief among the cheerleaders for the new look/ old look Chelsea was ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley – a man who’s photo should be taped to the mute button on my remote control.
One of Clive’s gems on Wednesday night was talking about how Chelsea were being driven-on by the “bravery” of Didier Drogba.
In my dictionary that means showing courage.
I was finding that a bit difficult to square with pictures of Drogba rolling on the turf after pretending to have been hit in the face.
His peek at team mates to check his work had fooled the ref certainly brought a few other adjectives to mind.
I can only imagine the outrage from Tyldesely if it had been a Napoli player feigning injury.
But strangely enough hardly a peep of criticism from the commentary box for the valiant striker.
I can’t see beyond Barcelona in this year’s tournament and Chelsea’s win will only paper over cracks in the team until they meet one of the real heavyweights.
Betting Spy continued its winning run last week as Everton obliged with a win over Spurs.
That provided a few quid to have a tilt at Cheltenham but Sizing Europe cost me dear in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
I thought it was in the bag with the favourite going strongly over the penultimate fence when the course marshalls suddenly stepped-in.
The last fence was deemed un-jumpable after an earlier fall but the jockeys were only made aware at the last minute.
I was confused over whether the last was in play – which is fine when you are 300 miles away sitting on a sofa.
Not so good when you are a jockey carrying the cash of thousands on your back and have to rely on some old bloke in tweed to wave a flag and point you in the right direction.
I’m sure there are a lot more hard-luck stories from the festival but it won’t stop us all having another go next year.
And luckily our tip Salut Flo did the business in the Byrne Plate to keep the winnings total ticking over.
Back with the football, and it’s FA Cup weekend and Sunderland away at Everton are a highly-backable price at 10/3 with Paddy Power.
Martin O’Neill will have a real tilt at this one and Everton are coming-off a 3-0 humbling at Liverpool so fill your boots.
