The Network Rail scheme at Werrington Junction near Peterborough is boosting the capacity of the East Coast Main Line.
It features a number of engineering challenges including the UK’s first curved box jack readying the line to dive under the existing railway.
That will take place over the course of a busy nine day line possession while 200,000 m3 of earth needs to be moved as well as significant upgrades to the existing drainage system because the scheme is located within a flood plain.
M O’Brien Contracts Director Phil Hayden said: “It is great to continue our working relationship with Morgan Sindall onto this exciting project in Werrington and we particularly look forward to supporting them on site with the delivery of the UK’s first curved Box jacked excavation and dive under”
