While workers were clearing out a gully near to the site entrance a cat ran into the road and in front of a car with a kitten in its mouth.
Fortunately the driver stopped but the mother bolted leaving the frightened kitten behind.
Finnegan site operative Dale Duckworth witnessed the drama and stepped in to look after the abandoned kitten.
The firm called the local animal rescue centre – Animals At Risk Shelter in Luton – who came out and collected the kitten to ensure it was well looked after.
