United Utilities engineers are currently investigating the sinkhole which is understood to have been caused by a collapsing sewer.

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service were initially called when the 10ft sinkhole opened up on Wednesday night swallowing parked cars in Gorton.

Firefighters were called back on Thursday when two previously evacuated buildings partially collapsed.
