The Grade II former House of Fraser building in Deansgate, said to be the country’s oldest department store, will be completely overhauled and fitted with a two-storey rooftop extension.
Additionally, the linked NCP multi-storey car park is to be replaced with a new 275,000 sq ft 12-storey office building in a combined project reported to cost up to £170m.
This will bring the total office and retail space up to near 500,000 sq ft.
Once complete, the refurbishment will give the iconic building a new lease of life and allow it to function as a future-proofed, low-carbon office, while maintaining the historic ground floor retail.
