The victim was hit by a set of stairs being unloaded by a crane.

The accident happened last week at the £250m Lewisham Gateway phase 2 site where Balfour Beatty is main contractor.

The injured worker was employed by subcontractor Carey London

A Carey London statement said: “There was an incident on site at Lewisham Gateway phase 2, where we are acting as subcontractor, on the afternoon of Wednesday June 9th.

“A member of our team, a crane supervisor, was hurt when he was hit by a set of stairs being unloaded by a crane.

“He was taken by ambulance to a South London hospital and is being treated for head injuries. We remain in close contact with the hospital, him and his family at this difficult time and we will continue to provide full support.”
