Kent County Council has started the tender race for a £500m building and refurbishment framework covering mainly schools new work and upgrades in the south east of England.

It is also scoped to include works to housing, and associated construction services such as hard or soft landscaping.

The previous principal contractors framework involved 17 suppliers across two lots, split by value.

Under the new Construction Partnership Framework, the council will significantly change its approach choosing just four suppliers to deliver the pipeline of work on a rotation approach.

Its selected firms could be expected to provide either professional services, design, build and operate schemes or construction schemes throughout the new framework, which due to start in February 2022.

Kent council estimate total works could be worth £500m over four years,  but said it would reserve the right to competitively tender any future project it deems appropriate.

Council procurement chiefs said they aim to create sustainable relationships while increasing flexibility and agility when commissioning new projects.

The framework pricing structure will be open book, with the client able to award to the next supplier should value for money conditions not be met.
