Developer General Projects has appointed Conamar to revamp the building which has stood derelict since being ravaged by fire in 2013.
Designs by Feix & Merlin, Heyne Tillett Steel & RED reference the site’s heritage dating back to 1894 while delivering a building suitable for modern uses revolving around a free-to-use community hub as well as event and workspaces for independent creative ventures.
Construction is set to start in March and will take approximately 18 months to complete.
Nathanial Crichton, Pre-Construction Director from Conamar, said: “We are delighted to have reached the stage of entering contract with this scheme – the project will further demonstrate our team’s abilities to work on logistically complex sites within central London whilst providing best value to our clients.
“This is a project we are excited to deliver as we gear up to start construction works in March.”
Frederic Schwass of General Projects stated “It’s fantastic that we are able to bring this building back into use for the local community.
“It has been a long process to get to this stage and it’s a testament to all the team we have reached the milestone of completing the building contracts. We look forward to working with Conamar and the novated design team through the construction phase.”
