Kier is understood to be the preferred bidder for the Currie Community High School campus project, worth an estimated £60m.

After getting the thumbs up from Edinburgh City council planner, construction is expected to start on the school in the summer and be completed in 2024.

It will be the first Passivhaus-designed secondary school in the country setting the standard for energy consumption across school estates.

The civic project includes a wellness centre, a new leisure centre with a fitness suite and one of the UK’s first Passivhaus swimming pools, with a community library and a café connecting these areas.

Plans also include an outdoor hub that features informal play spaces alongside a sensory garden and public allotments, with school spaces designed to open up for general use out of hours.

The 140,000 sq ft project is designed by Architype with Rybka as M&E consultant

Learning spaces in the three-storey teaching block include laboratories, food technology and performance areas for the creative arts.
