The first phase will see 718 energy-efficient homes built, as well as commercial units at Herringham Road and New Lydenburg Street, close to the Thames Barrier, in blocks of up to 10 storeys. Around a third will be let at London Affordable Rent.
Hyde also gained outline permission for a further 494 homes to be delivered in a future phase.
Some of the homes will be built next to a safeguarded wharf.
Jaime Buckley, Land and Planning Director at the Hyde Group, said: “We have very carefully considered the impact of the existing industrial units neighbouring the site and we will provide mitigation measures to private sale homes to ensure they are protected.
“We’ve been working very hard on bringing desperately needed housing to this area, and to Greenwich, over the last few years and I’m thrilled that we have the council behind us to deliver this vital new development.”
