Irish Hospitality Group Press Up is behind the plan to restore the building, which more recently acted as a live music venue, but has been left vacant since 2017. Designs by Todd architects include adding a three-floor rooftop extension to the 1904 building which will be known as the Dean Birmingham. The hotel project will see the building’s central hall restored to create a 1,500 seat event space, with shops and bars on the ground floor. The Dean Birmingham will be Press Up Hospitality’s first location for the brand outside of the Republic of Ireland.
