The move is part of an ongoing rethink of the house builder’s offsite strategy.

Earlier this year Countryside confirmed a review of its offsite operations which had left the firm with excess capacity and forecast operating losses of £10m.

A trading statement today said: “Following a review of the group’s manufacturing facilities, the board has taken the decision to exit its site in Bardon, one of three MMC factories owned by the group, and we expect a reduction in the run-rate of manufacturing losses as a result. “

The Bardon factory only opened last Autumn making modular panels and Countryside was one of the industry’s earliest adopters of MMC with an original target of delivering 6,000 homes a year by 2025 using offsite methods.

Last month Countryside confirmed it is putting the business up for sale following a series of approaches by US-based hedge Inclusive Capital Partners (In-Cap).

It said: “On 13 June 2022, the Board announced its decision to conduct a formal sale process for the group.  The preparatory work is progressing well and further announcements regarding the timing and formal launch of the process will be made as appropriate.”
