Designed by DAY Architectural, the new campus will be built next to BAE Systems’ new central training facility in the town, which was built by Wates.
Developed in collaboration with BAE Systems, the campus will offer nearly 1,500 students a year courses in advanced manufacturing, computing, business management, project management, and supply chain and logistics.
It is expected that the main construction work on the university campus will begin next year, with completion forecast for summer 2024.
University of Cumbria Vice Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell said: “Planning permission is a key milestone towards realising our ambition to develop a new university campus in Barrow.
“Some issues remain but we continue to work collaboratively with others and seek to resolve them so our shared ambitions of enhancing local education opportunities progress. “
