Redrow Homes asked inspectors to step in after the city council failed to determine its application back in 2018.
Now the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities has backed the planning inspector’s report and granted outline planning for the new homes, a primary school, convenience store and new country park on land west of Monks Cross Link Road.
Redrow plans to spend £100m over the next 10 year years building at a rate of around 100 homes a year.
