Split into three redevelopment phases the programme will cost in the region of £75m and take four to five years to complete.
The ambitious project will see dispersed facilities at the 40-acre site demolished to make way for new buildings to form a modern new police campus.
Much of the Saunders Lane complex is said to be “at the end of its useable lifespan” and suffering from “decades of underinvestment going back to the 1990s.
Under the new plan many of the old service buildings will be consolidated in major new connected buildings.
New buildings planned
- A 90,000 sq ft HQ building
- A 60,000 sq ft support building
- A 94,000 sq ft multistorey car park with 296 spaces
- A 1,000 sq ft gatehouse
In a last phase, many of the buildings at the nearby 15-acre Lindle Lane site for police horses and dogs, including new kennels will be refurbished or renovated.
