Procured through the Scape construction framework, the project is part of the council’s wider regeneration plans funded by the Government’s Town’s Fund initiative.
Set to be built adjacent to the main town centre gardens on St George’s Way, the project will consolidate Stevenage’s health and wellbeing offering, which is currently positioned across three different sites.
Land released from these old buildings will allow for around 200 new homes to be built.
David Rowsell, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Northern Home Counties, said: “Stevenage Sports and Leisure Hub will be a new focal point for the town.
“Having a new modern facility with the whole health and wellbeing offering under one roof, will encourage greater levels of participation in sport, delivering improvements to quality of life across Stevenage.”
