Construction is now due to start this summer on the site of the former Southport Theatre which will be transformed into an events centre and accompanying water and light show in the neighbouring Marine Lake.
Kier has signed up to a special social value plan which will see the firm give back to communities across Sefton.
This will include providing local employment and supply chain opportunities, along with additional time and resources dedicated to working with school and college students who want to explore careers in the construction industry.
Stephen Watson, Sefton Council’s Executive Director of Place said: “It’s a hugely transformational project designed to boost the local economy, create new job opportunities and bring thousands of extra visitors to our beautiful Borough each year.
“From the moment we revealed this ambitious project the views and feedback of those living and working near to the site, as well as the wider community, were key to getting to this stage.
“We are delighted at the overwhelming support and excitement that the Marine Lake Events Centre has generated.”
