The 230,000 sq ft building was originally designed in the 1980’s by architect Richard Seifert and stands by the Tower Gateway DLR station overlooking the Tower of London.
The contract worth £38m, which will be completed over 15 months is to upgrade the tired and energy-inefficient building into high-performance Grade A offices.
This will include the full installation of MEPH, the replacement of windows and curtain walling, and the CAT A fit-out to specific floors.
It is the contractor’s second London contract after converting a former historic movie theatre in Shepherds Bush into 74 flats and a hotel for developer Far East Consortium.
In Manchester, the contractor has also delivered 240 flats at Meadowside in a project worth £54 for FEC and is currently on site delivering Victoria Riverside, which is a £117m project, delivering a further 634 apartments and townhouses for the same client.
Calum Kidd, CR Construction (UK), MD, said “We are extremely excited to have been selected by SRE to deliver this flagship scheme on their behalf.
“This is an exciting time for the business and we are looking forward to growing the business in both the London and Manchester regions, where we are working on several opportunities that will allow us to establish CR (U.K.) as a well-known and trusted brand in the UK market, delivering projects in the residential, office and hotel sectors.”
