Work on the £8.5m Daventry University Technical College job is due to start in September subject to full planning permission being granted.
The project is being led by Moulton College and the University of Northampton working in partnership with Daventry District Council, Northamptonshire County Council and a range of employer partners.
The 54,000 sq ft college will provide students aged 14-19 with a range of full-time courses combining practical and academic studies and specialising in sustainable construction, environmental sustainability and engineering.
The courses will be sponsored by the University of Northampton and employers will be heavily involved in shaping the curriculum.
Several sustainable features will be incorporated in the Mentor FaulknerBrowns designed building including 1,000 sq ft of photovoltaic panels, sedum roof and rainwater harvesting system.
